Parable of the Farmer & Your Health

Matthew 13 - Parable of the Farmer

In this parable Jesus talks about what happens when seeds fall onto 4 different types of soils as an metaphor for spiritual life. The imagery of this parable has stayed with me since Sunday school when I first learned it.

Health is multi-dimensional - body, mind & spirit. We need joy and energy found in each dimension. This parable has some lessons for us if we look at it from the view of health.

The Parable of the Farmer is a comforting reminder on how God provides whispered words of wisdom and guidance. When I am open and listening, I can learn how best to nurture my body, mind and spirit to maximize my potential and lead a life of purpose. If I allow the distractions of the manifest world to jade or harden me or inner self-talk to create noise, I am unable to hear the wisdom.

As we exert Free Will, we have choices on how we nurture (or neglect) the fields that make up our body, mind and spirit. Our body’s are divinely designed, just like the seed in the parable. Within each healthy cell of our body, there is knowledge and energy on how to be in the best health, what its purpose is and how to operate as part of our whole body. In today's world, there are a lot of influences, factors and behaviors going on to separate ourselves from this divine knowledge. We need to go back to the Parable of the Farmer to ask ourselves:

  • How hardened, bitter or angry have I become? How upset am I that so many people are trying to normalize criminal and evil behavior? How angry am I that government and the healthcare and food industry are pushing an agenda and seeking the most profit, instead of being concerned for the best health outcomes? With how Evil becoming increasingly visible in the world and forces strive to control me and keep me weak, how do I stay strong and resilient? These days, it is even more important to find joy, peace and connection within oneself, family and community to thrive and not just survive. Reconnect with God and other like-minded people to find solutions.
  • How do I maximize the fertility of the fields and remove the stones to allow the seeds from God to grow bountifully? Make healthier selections in food, drink, activity and relationships. Cleanse of toxins, habits and relationships that no longer serve.
  • How do I remove the weeds that choke me out and prevent me from flourishing? Address worries, anxieties and unhealthy habits / behaviors. Don’t give power away to others that are trying to control choices and are pushing their agenda and/or products. Make conscious choices and stay connected with God.
  • Besides good soil and clean water, seeds need light and air to grow upward and to root strongly. How do I let God’s light shine and His breath invigorate me? Quiet the noise from the endless mental chatter and distractions in the environment. Pray.

I’ve come to believe that God planted seeds of wisdom in each of us while we were in the womb. This innate wisdom can guide us to the most nourishing choices.  Additionally, being able to hear God’s Words helps to support us on our health journey and to unleash the potential and purpose that He has in mind for each of us.

This is more than just making sure that the cells in our body are working optimally. On a subtle energetic level, the flow of energy in between the energetic fields that connect the manifest physical Body to the unmanifest Mind and Spirit, is part of what keeps us connected directly to God. Keeping the flow of energy is critical for radiant health and well-being.

Being able to take action on our innate wisdom and God's guidance leads to choices and habits that increase joy and lead to radiant good health!
